5 Reasons you should definitely NOT be strength training (just kidding!)

Now that we have your attention...

Cardio is often considered the "place to start" when it comes to physical health and that's not all bad. Sometimes we just need to get moving with a daily walk or run to get into the mindset of doing something healthy and active for ourselves.

The trick is to not get stuck there.

But instead of asking why, let's ask why not!

Here are 5 reasons why you definitely don't want to be strength training at all:
  1. Strength training ups your metabolism which helps you burn more calories at all times - and yes, that includes while resting. This usually makes you hungry because you've been burning at such a high rate...but we bet you're one of those people who doesn't like eating much.
  2. Pushing your muscles against resistance helps protect bone health and muscle mass and can even reverse bone and muscle loss. But weak arms and osteoporosis sound like so much fun!!
  3. Your balance and coordination will get better which means you're less likely to experience the joy of stubbing your toe on the bed or clocking your elbow on the kitchen counter.
  4. In the words of Elle Woods, "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don't shoot their husbands". If that's true for cardio, it's extra true for strength training. In fact, strength training has been shown to act as a great antidepressant plus it helps you sleep better. But everyone loves your tired and cranky personality so you should probably stay away from the weights.
  5. Toned, lean, sculpted muscle is sexy but Justin Timberlake didn't really bring sexy back so we should probably just avoid that, right?
I've got to add this note -- I'm sure you've heard it but I'm going to say it again: You will not bulk beyond your natural frame without the conscious help from some muscle bulking supplements. That means that no, ladies, you won't look bulky and no, guys, you won't get so big you can't put down your arms. Grab some weights or do some body weight exercises...unless you were nodding along with this entire list! - Gabriella

What reasons would you add to NOT lift weights?
